Hack! Get WIFI on All Your Devices with Only One Charge (Works on Any Airline)
Paying for WIFI on airlines can get pretty expensive. Even short flights make less sense to even bother with the price.
Imagine only paying one fee and being able to share that WIFI connection to your phone and even your friends and family that are traveling with you.
This is a neat trick that works well for any airline that offers WIFI. You will also need a laptop that will allow sharing from your WIFI source to another.
An example would be using a MacBook and sharing WIFI to your iPhone via Bluetooth.
Note: Airline WIFI is already slow and you would be essentially splitting the bandwidth that you purchased.
Basically, your shared WiFi will be hella slow.
But it is still a win because you will get internet connection that is good enough to iMessage, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and whatever else you kids are into nowadays.
Here is how you can do this on your mac
Step 1:
Purchase WIFI on your Mac
Step 2:
Go to System Preferences > Sharing > Internet Sharing
Have WIFI selected in the drop down and Bluetooth PAN selected in the check box below. Then Check the box on Internet Sharing to have it start.
Step 3:
Go to your phone settings or whatever device you want to get WIFI on and connect Bluetooth emitted by your computer.
You should gain connectivity to the internet on each device that connects to your computer via Bluetooth.
Note: You can do a similar method with a Windows computer. Download Connectify and follow their steps. The free version works well enough. The difference is that with Connectify, you are sharing a WIFI connection with a different WIFI channel.
Fast.com reported a speed of 1.7 Mbps on the laptop where I purchased Southwest Airlines WIFI. Compare that to the speed result from the iPhone connected to it. You can see that I got a 3rd of the speed. Enough for web browsing and messaging apps.
And there you have it. A travel hack that actually resembles... hacking.
